Weight Loss With No Exercise

From nothingness, the universe was created. From a simple caterpillar, a butterfly emerges. A dorky teen grows up to be a fashion model, or a bodybuilder. The one constant in life is change, and in our Transformation of the Week series, AskMen is celebrating men who have turned their lives around through dedication, commitment and hard work. Is that you? Email us your story and pictures at askus@askmen.com and you could be featured next week!

Usually weight loss transformations could with stories about relentless work in the gym, experimenting with weight lifting programs and flexing new muscles in the mirror. But this one proves that your kitchen habits can be your biggest asset for anyone that wants to make changes to their health and body. This woman says she dropped 102 pounds, and mostly without the grueling gym work. She simply made a hard pivot with her eating.

The woman, who's name is Kristina, practiced the increasingly popular ketogentic diet, a low-carb, high-fat diet that forces the body to turn to fat to burn energy through a metabolic process called ketosis. (we've covered everything you'll want to know about it)

"I started off doing zero exercise, just focused on my diet" the woman told the website PopSugar. "I knew if I changed too much, too fast, I'd burn out and quit. So for the first year on keto, I did essentially no exercise. I walked to school and did the occasion yoga class on campus but nothing serious."

Kristina told the website that she started her weight loss journey in 2014 weighing 250 pounds.  In the first year, she said she dropped 70 pounds primarily by swapping her eating habits.

To be fair, Kristina, who uses the handle ellipticalfraglistic on Instagram to document her transformation, hit the gym to get over the hump, two years into her diet change. Like many of us, she went heavy on the cardio but she turned to weights. "I want to build muscles!" she told PopSugar. She has since taken up intermittent fasting, a practice that involves cycles of eating and periods of fasting to restrict calories and burn fat.

Sure, she admitted to a few setbacks but three years after deciding to change her lifestyle choices, she's still hovering around her ideal weight. What helped her the most? Simple. Consistency.

"Eating low-carb just became... just what I did. A habit," she said. "Same with going to the gym five times a week. It was hard to adjust at first and there were a lot of days I just wanted to go home and be lazy, but I pushed myself to make it a habit. Now it feels weird NOT to go to the gym!"
